When using Podio for authentication, users log in with their own Podio accounts. This setup allows users to interact with applications seamlessly while leveraging their existing Podio credentials.

User App

If you need to limit access to specific users, you have to connect a user app. Within the app, you can specify either a single-line text or an email field to store the Podio user's email address. It is crucial to ensure that each email field contains only one email address to maintain data integrity.

Access Control

  • Access control within your app depends on the configuration of a user app and the user's status within the space.
  • No User App Selected: If a user app is not configured, logged-in users will not be able to access any Podio summary or detail screens. They will encounter an error message stating, for example, "User 11688855 has no rights in app 27459340." This default setting helps prevent unauthorized access by ensuring that only users with proper permissions can view sensitive data.
  • User App Selected, User Not in Space: If a user app is configured but the user does not exist within the space, the user will be able to view data. However, any edits they make will be attributed to the user app's name, not the individual user.
  • User App Selected, User in Space: When a user app is selected and the user is part of the space, the user will have access to view data. Additionally, any edits made will be recorded under the user's own name.
  • Below, the left image shows edits made in the user's name, indicating access to the space, while the right image shows edits made by the app, indicating the user lacked access to the space.
